A focused and direct response will demonstrate your clear understanding of the question, which is critical in achieving a high band score. For instance, if a question asks you to discuss both sides and provide your opinion, ensure that you do exactly that rather than giving a one-sided argument.
- Develop a Strong Argument with Clear Examples: To elevate your IELTS essay to a band 9 level, it's crucial to build a strong argument supported by clear and relevant examples. These examples can be drawn from your personal experiences, observations, or general knowledge. The intertwining of concrete examples with your argument strengthens your position and makes your essay persuasive and credible.
- Balance Coherence with Lexical Resource: A high scoring essay not only delivers a cohesive and coherent response but also showcases a rich lexical resource. IELTS Writing - Task 2 - Sample Answer
There is no doubt that academic pursuits should be a primary concern for full-time university students. Nevertheless, I strongly contend that participation in extracurricular activities is equally essential for a well-rounded student experience.
Academic success is undeniably important, as a solid education forms the cornerstone of a prosperous career. Universities offer a wealth of knowledge and skills that can equip students for their future vocations. My own experience as a university student underscores this, where I spent a substantial amount of time reading, researching, and engaging in academic discourse, which has undoubtedly played an instrumental role in my professional success today.
However, universities are not just knowledge factories but also hubs for holistic growth. Extracurricular activities, be it sport, performing arts, or volunteering, provide students with invaluable life skills. For instance, participating in a team sport can cultivate leadership skills, teamwork, and resilience, whilst engaging in volunteering helps foster empathy, compassion, and societal awareness. As a part of the university debate club, I had the opportunity to nurture my public speaking and critical thinking abilities, which have been markedly beneficial in my professional life.
Moreover, activities beyond the confines of academia can boost mental well-being, providing students with an avenue to de-stress and maintain a balanced university life. Personally, being a part of a music band at university helped me to relax and express myself creatively, contributing to my overall mental health.
In conclusion, while academics should be prioritized by full-time university students, extracurricular activities should not be undermined. A balance between the two not only ensures the acquisition of valuable skills and experiences but also promotes the overall well-being of students.
