The line graph shows the evolution in urban population percentages in four different Asian countries, from 1970 to 2020, along with future forecasts for 2030 and 2040.

It's evident from the graph that all countries witnessed a marked upswing in the urban population, a trend projected to continue in upcoming years. The most notable growth is seen in Malaysia, which holds the top position in terms of urban population percentage among the given nations.

In 1970, roughly 30% of people in Malaysia and the Philippines resided in urban areas. Fast forward to 2020, and Malaysia saw a dramatic increase in its urban population, hitting nearly 80%, while the urban population in the Philippines remained somewhat volatile, fluctuating between 30% and 50%.

Thailand and Indonesia had urban populations around 20% and 15%, respectively in 1970. But by 2020, Indonesia witnessed a swift upward trend, crossing the 50% mark, while Thailand's urban population increased at a softer pace, reaching around 30%.

Future projections suggest a continuing growth trend in urban populations for all these countries. By 2040, Malaysia is expected to lead with over 85% of its population residing in cities, followed by Indonesia with approximately 60%. The Philippines and Thailand are projected to have around 55% and 50% of their populations living in urban areas, respectively.
