IELTS General Training Writing Sample Task 2
Model Answer
Modern technology has indeed given people more free time. On the one hand, this is a good thing because it gives people more opportunity to relax and enjoy their leisure time. However, on the other hand, it can also be seen as a bad thing because it can make people lazier and less inclined to do things that require physical effort.
In my opinion, the benefits of modern technology outweigh the negative aspects. This is because, on balance, people now have more time to enjoy themselves and pursue their interests than they did in the past. For example, thanks to advances in communication technology, people can now work from home or remotely, which means that they can save time not commuting. In addition, they can also use their free time to relax and enjoy themselves in ways that were not possible before, such as watching movies or TV shows online, playing video games, or browsing the internet.
Although some people may think that life is busier nowadays because of technology and the internet, I believe that life is much easier now than it used to be. In the past, people had to do everything manually, from cooking and cleaning to farming and transportation. Even simple tasks like communication and entertainment required a lot of effort. Nowadays, technology has made our lives much easier by automating many tasks and providing us with instant access to information and entertainment.
For example, we can now use devices like washing machines and dishwashers to save time on household chores. We can also use the internet to quickly find answers to our questions or watch our favorite shows and movies with just a few clicks. In addition, modern transportation methods like cars and trains have made it much easier for us to get around.
In conclusion, while there are some negative aspects of modern technology, on balance, it has had a positive impact on our lives by giving us more leisure time and making many everyday tasks easier.

Dear Author,
I recently read your book about my home city, and I was disappointed to find some incorrect information in it. In particular, you state that the city was founded in 1790 when, in fact, it was founded much earlier, in 1640. You also claim that the population of the city is 200,000 when it is actually closer to 300,000. This data is available in the public records and not difficult to find.
It is vital to provide your readers with the correct information, and I urge you to correct these errors in future editions of your book as they could mislead your readers. In addition, if you continue to spread inaccurate information about the city, you could damage your reputation as a reliable author. I hope you consider my suggestions and make the necessary corrections.
Otherwise, I found your book well-written and informative. My city is a wonderful place, and I want others to be able to learn about its history and culture accurately.
Thank you for your time.
Yours sincerely,
