Part 1: Introduction and Interview

Examiner: Good morning/afternoon. My name is [Examiner]. Can you tell me your full name, please?

Candidate: My name is [Candidate].

Examiner: And where are you from, [Candidate]?

Candidate: I'm from [City/Country].

Examiner: And what do you do for work or study?

Candidate: I'm currently a student. I'm studying [Subject] at [University].

Examiner: OK, thank you. Now, for the first part of the speaking test, I'm going to ask you some questions about yourself. Let's start with what you like to do in your free time.

Candidate: In my free time, I like to play sports and spend time with friends. I also like to explore new places and travel when I can. Additionally, I enjoy reading books and watching movies.

Examiner: What are some other popular free-time activities in your country?

Candidate: In my country, it is quite common for people to enjoy outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, and fishing. Music and dancing are also popular hobbies, as well as painting and sculpting. People also often take part in sports like football or basketball.

Examiner: Now, I'd like to talk about technology. What kinds of technology do you use daily?

Candidate: Daily, I use a variety of technology. For example, I have a laptop that I use to do research and write essays for my classes. I also have a smartphone, which I use to stay connected with friends and family on social media. Additionally, I often rely on the internet to stay up-to-date with current events and trends. Finally, I use a variety of online tools for entertainment, such as streaming movies and playing video games. In general, technology is an important part of my daily life.

Examiner: How has technology changed how people work in your country?

Candidate: Technology has had a major impact on how people work in my country. For example, the prevalence of online platforms and tools has enabled workers to complete tasks remotely from any location with an internet connection. Additionally, businesses have been able to automate much of their daily operations with the help of AI and automation technology. As a result, companies can be more efficient and reduce operating costs. Furthermore, technology has enabled people to access a wealth of information quickly and easily so they can make decisions with greater accuracy. All these changes have had a positive effect on the way people work in my country.

Examiner: That's fine. Now, let's move on to the second part of the test.

Part 2: Individual Long Turn

Examiner: In this part of the test, I'm going to give you a topic and I'd like you to talk about it for one to two minutes. You can make some notes if you like.

The topic is: "Describe a place you have visited that you would like to return to."

Candidate: (after seeing cue card and making notes)

One place that I would love to return to is [Place]. I visited [Place] on a family vacation a few years ago, and it was absolutely breathtaking.

The [landscape/architecture/culture] was so unique and beautiful, and I felt like I could have spent months exploring all that the city had to offer.

One of the things I loved most about [Place] was the [activity] that I was able to do. Whether it was [activity] or [activity], there was always something new and exciting to do. The locals were also incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even more memorable.

We stayed in a charming [hotel/bed and breakfast/vacation rental] located in the heart of the city. The [hotel/bed and breakfast/vacation rental] was decorated in a traditional [style] and offered all the amenities we needed for a comfortable stay. The breakfast served each morning was delicious, with a wide selection of [local/regional] specialties.

Overall, I have such fond memories of my trip to [Place], and I would love to go back and visit again someday. There is just something about the [atmosphere/culture/people] that makes it a truly special place.

Part 3: Two-Way Discussion

Examiner: In this part of the test, I'd like to discuss a topic with you in more depth.

The topic is: "The impact of technology on communication."

Examiner: What are the benefits of using technology in communication?

Candidate: One benefit is that it allows us to stay connected with people who may be far away. We can keep in touch with our friends and family members regularly, no matter where they are. Technology also allows us to share information quickly and easily, which can be helpful in a variety of situations. Furthermore, it can help to reduce the costs associated with communication, such as long-distance phone calls or expensive international postage. Finally, technology can enable us to have more meaningful conversations with people we wouldn’t normally have access to through traditional means. For example, many people use video conferencing and other technologies to communicate with friends and family members who live in different countries.

Examiner: How has technology impacted the way people communicate with each other in your country?

Candidate: In my country, technology has had a significant impact on communication. With the proliferation of smartphones and the widespread use of social media and messaging apps, it's now easier than ever for people to stay connected with each other, regardless of where they are.

However, this constant connectivity can also have negative effects. For example, some people find it difficult to disconnect from their devices and may experience social isolation or a lack of face-to-face communication skills.

Examiner: Do you think the increasing use of technology for communication is a positive or negative development?

Candidate: I think it's both positive and negative. On the one hand, technology has made it easier for people to stay in touch with each other and access information, which can be very beneficial. On the other hand, it can also lead to a decrease in face-to-face communication and create distractions that can interfere with productivity.

Examiner: In your opinion, how can we strike a balance between the benefits and drawbacks of technology in communication?

Candidate: I think one way to strike a balance is to be mindful of how we use technology and set boundaries for ourselves. For example, we could limit the amount of time we spend on our devices, or make an effort to have more in-person conversations with friends and family. Additionally, it's important to be aware of the potential negative effects of technology and take steps to mitigate them, such as by disconnecting from our devices for a certain amount of time each day.

Examiner: What might be considered by some people to be the disadvantages of using technology for communication nowadays?

Candidate: One of the main disadvantages is that technology can be used to spread misinformation. With online communication, it can be difficult to determine what information is accurate and reliable. Additionally, technology has replaced in-person conversations in some ways, which may lead to people feeling more isolated or disconnected from the world around them. Furthermore, too much time spent using technology can also be detrimental to our physical and mental health by causing us to become overstimulated or stressed out. To combat these issues, we need to be aware of how much time we spend online and make an effort to regulate it.

Examiner: In what ways do you think our communication will change in the future as Artificial Intelligence (AI) becomes widely adopted in such technologies?

Candidate: I believe that AI will have a huge impact on how we communicate in the future. With AI, we can expect our conversations to become more personalized; for example, it could remember our preferences and tailor its responses based on them. But we also need to be mindful of the potential negative impacts of AI. For instance, people may become less likely to communicate face-to-face if AI can provide more convenient alternatives for conversation. We should also be aware of the potential risks posed by automation, such as the spread of fake news or online scams. All in all, I think it’s important to be mindful of how our communication could change in the future and take steps to ensure that we remain connected to each other in meaningful ways.
